New Job, Xmas and 3D goodness...

Bonjour :)

Yes, I know. It's been a while since I posted last.
I have practically no excuse this time! I have started my new job however. So far so good. Enjoying it immensely, even though I do look like a Policeman in my snazzy new uniform! A hospital Porter is effectively an in-house delivery man for said hospital, delivering patients, parcels/letters, equipment, dinner trolleys or just moving the rubbish/clinical waste from A to B.

Despite assurances that they were a rarity, I had to move 2 dead bodies from the wards to the morgue within the first week. I was a little unsure as to how I would react to this, as I have never had any contact with a corpse before (other than my Grandad, but that was very brief) and as it turned out, there was nothing to it tbh. I was impressed with how respectful all the staff were with the deceased.

My Mario Advent calender's doors seem to be opening at an incredible rate of knots.
This past 2 weeks have literally flown by and I have still got a few presents to buy. Last months wages have been obliterated already and luckily I will get my final Argos wage on the 23rd, which should see me over the finish line gift-wise! On the plus side, I have Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and Boxing Day off work. I honestly thought that I would have copped for them shifts as I am the new boy!

Now...onto my 3DTV!
Got this a few weeks ago. I have wanted one for aaaaaages, pretty much after seeing Avatar at the cinema in 3D and then seeing Crysis 2 running on my mate's active Samsung set. As I blogged last time, my missus finally caved and we got a passive 42" LED LG set. The 3D effect is literally amazing, I love it! Avatar looks as fantastic as it did at the pictures, even (dare I say it?) slightly better as the picture seems sharper on the smaller screen. Wipeout HD and SuperStardust HD look stunning in 3D too, my mother Goose has bought me Batman : Arkham City for Xmas and that has 3D, so looking forward to trying that :)

Also hoping to get either vouchers or Uncharted 3 too! The 2D to 3D setting works pretty well, adding depth to Portal 2, but not quite the full 3D effect as advertised.

Gaming-wise (non 3D), I haven't really played much. A bout of shameless trophy-whoring on the Sam & Max games aside, a little bit of a go on RAGE (which looks stunning on the new tellybox) and that's about it. Had a blast on Portal 2 co-op with my good mate Dracon Zeal, lots of fun, but got a bit tiresome with the incessant loading screens. The levels literally took longer to load than it did did to play at times!

Anyhow, thats all for now!

Work, Sickness and Battlefield!

Once again, apologies for the lateness of this entry.
As the title suggests, I have been working a lot. My step-daughter and now my missus have both been spewing like a pair of vomit-volcanoes, which has hampered my attempts to get on here. Oh and Battlefield, which tended to sap any spare time that I did have!

I am one of these people that just "don't do" puke. I don't mind any other bodily fluids, but puke literally makes me want to gip too. The sight, the smell and even the sound of someone heaving is enough to make my stomach do somersaults.

Safe to say I'm not much help when my missus is poorly then.
I just prod a bucket and a glass of water in her general direction from the bedroom doorway with a broom handle. With words like "Alright in there love?" and "If you need anything, gimme a shout" my only way of trying to be useful.

At the time of writing, I have 10 more shifts (at both my jobs) to go until I start my new one.
I met my new boss briefly last night and he seems like a nice bloke, which can only be a good thing.

On the Battlefield, I have progressed to Rank 30.
Obtained some of the combat medals (these basically = mucho xp) and some of the service stars. Most proud of my 100 knife kills one though :)

Looking forward to tomorrow, all being well I should finally be getting the 3DTV I have been after for a while. My good lady finally gave in and said ok, this may be due to illness and she just can't be arsed to argue the toss. Either way, I don't care and am looking forward to some three-dimensional goodness over the next few weeks!

Will post again soon!

One week later...

Well it's been a week since my last blog entry.
Yeah I'm lazy and should probably post on here more than I do, but I am managing to post more than my last attempt at this (I managed a total of 2 entries then).

This week I have had a job interview, been my mother's personal skivvy (curse the bunion op) some more, worked loads and managed to claw my way to Rank 17 on Battlefield 3 :)

The interview went well, I got the job! So exactly 3 and a bit weeks til I embark on my new career as a hospital Porter! Sealing the lid on 3 years with Argos and 6 months as a part-time cleaner too. I honestly can't wait, looking forward to it. It's more money and hopefully plenty of overtime will be available. The main downside is that it'll be shift work, either 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm or 10pm-6am.

While I don't see it as a downside personally, the missus isn't best pleased. I'm kinda hoping that she'll come round and understand why it's a good thing in due course, time will tell I guess.

As far as gaming goes, I've only really played BF3 today. Had a little stint on it during the week, but the servers were playing up like crazy. Couldn't join a game, could but then the lag was stupid, then I could but would get booted less than a few mins later and then back to not being able to join any games full stop.

Other than that, I had a quick browse of Onlive. Generally I think it's very swish, the interface is very good and easy to navigate. If the broadband speeds in sunny Bridlington pick up somewhat, I may look at investing in the service :)

Skyrim and Uncharted 3 are both on my "most wanted" radar. Though I have been told not to buy anything due to the imminence of Christmas and the inevitable presents (please let one of them be Skyrim)!
I say that and my "to play" pile is still very large. Currently consisting of RAGE, Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, Portal 2, 3D Dot Heroes and (of course) Battlefield 3!

So I guess it's the same old adage - too many games and not enough time to play em all!
Probably even less time when I start the new job too.
Oh well, it's a nice problem to have I guess!

No rest for the wicked...

Today is Sunday.
I haven't played Battlefield for a few days, as my PS3 time has been somewhat limited.
My dear Mother Goose had a bunion removed and (due to my father been as domesticated as a 13 yr old boy) I have been running backwards and forwards for her. Be it cleaning, shopping, whatever. Add to that my missus' obsession with getting our loft prepped to be re-insulated by British Gas (for free, can't beat free stuff) and her absolute insistence on me and nobody but me, painting our new fence and I have been left with literally next to no time to enjoy my favourite hobby.

I could've got on it the other day in all honesty, but I decided to grab DC Universe Online as it has just gone free-to-play (remember, free = good). I hadn't banked on the colossal download that was obviously gonna be involved, this tied up my PS3 for an entire night and most of the following day too (broadband speeds in sunny Bridlington are currently a tad shitty, though we are allegedly getting BT Infinity in our area soon).

Only had a quick blast on it the other day (DC) and was rather pleasantly surprised.
It's not great, but it's certainly worth the free download imo! My freshly and painstakingly created Villain can run, climb and glide around the cityscape causing mayhem and bother everywhere she goes! And yeah, I said "she" as I figured - if I'm gonna spend hours looking at someone from behind, it may as well be female, in lycra and have a fine ass.

Anyways, fence painted, loft prepped and Mother Goose's shopping/errand list fulfilled I have grabbed this opportunity to post on here and then will be (hopefully) jumping on Battlefield 3 or possibly DC for most of the rest of today!

Will try and post again soon :)

A little later than planned...

Aloha!
My original plan to post on here the next day went out the window, mainly due to me becoming somewhat hooked on Battlefield 3's sublime multiplayer. I ummed and ahhhed about buying it, the trailers/youtube vids/EA's aggressive marketing made it look very good indeed, but I normally pass on the military shooters.

After a shopping trip to Meadowhall, my missus surprised me with a shiny new copy of BF3!!
Safe to say I was chuffed! After the large update and install, I fired up the game.

Initially, it reminded me why I don't like these types of game. Too many options for a noob to pick from, class/starting weapons even game type... my head-eggs were a little scrambled to be honest. I jumped into a random game and spent the next 45 minutes cursing as I was picked off constantly while running around like a headless chicken.

It must have been hilarious to be on the opposition's team and watching me as I literally had no idea of where to go or what to do, shooting at anyone who shot at me first. Safe to say 9/10 I died before they did.
Even funnier when I stopped in the open, trying every button on the pad to figure out how to equip my bazooka! (and when I finally got the right one, some twat ran up and knifed me in the back!!).

But now I am starting to get to grips with the game, understanding how Conquest mode works. Understanding that it doesn't play like CoD (which I have never really been a fan of) or Resistance 3! and slowly but surely it has begun to sink it's claws in.

I don't have the same amount of time to invest into it as most, it seems some people must literally live on the game to get their play time up so high in such a short space of (real life) time. As such, I am ranking up slowly, picking up a few ribbons in the matches...which leads to more xp...which leads to new unlocks...

I think it's the sense of slow and steady progression (even though I am still a bit shit) that endears me to it. The awesome feeling of "hahahaha have that ya bastard!" as I knife someone and take their dogtags after being pinned down or killed several times by them!!

Anyhow, written enough for now, it's my day off (well, from one job anyway) and I am losing some valuable Battlefield time!

An almost 3 year absence, now another attempt at this Blogging malarky!

Well, where to start?
I had a (very brief) attempt at this back in 2009, you can see my "efforts" here - madbojangles.blogspot.com and thought it was about time that I resurrected it and had another go. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to sign into it for the life of me and so I have started afresh!

My name is still John, I'm now 31 years old and still an avid gamer.
Not a great deal else has changed in all honesty, I work an awful lot and try to game in my spare time (family permitting)! Also take an active interest in cinema and reading...oooh and football! An avid Sunderland supporter since a young age :)

Unsure what else to put for now, I intend to write my Dark Souls diary on here eventually.
I'll probably copy and paste the start of it from my "First Impressions" thread over at   http://www.matureps3gamers.com/ the (rather good) gaming forum I visit. Great bunch of people and highly recommend if you're looking for a friendly and mature lot to play and chat about PS3/anything with!

MadBoJangles is my PSN ID and my XBL Gamertag.
Currently only really gaming on PS3 and (very rarely) Wii at the moment. Though I am tempted to pick up another 360 for Gears 3 in all honesty!

Anyhow, I'll post again later today or tomorrow all being well.
